From Michigan Links April/May 2000 - "Northern Exposure" by Tonia Branch

"Belvedere Golf Club, located just inland from Lake Michigan in the beautiful town of Charlevoix, has recently opened its doors to limited public play after being exclusively private for more than 70 years. The club was founded in 1925, with the course opening for play in 1927.

Belvedere Golf Club is best known for its hosting of the Michigan Amateur Golf Championship on 38 occasions, more than any other course in the state. Five-time British Open champion Tom Watson and his father used to play Belvedere during the summer while he was growing up.

A few years ago, former US Open champion and now CBS golf commentator Ken Venturi drove up to Belvedere to see the golf course. When the club president asked how he had heard about the course, Ken replied, "Gene Sarazen told me I have to play the 16th hole.

Belvedere has beautiful views, contoured fairways, small fast greens and native heather grasses similar to great Scottish courses. Belvedere Golf Club is an undiscovered gem in Northern Michigan golf."
